Associazione Nazionale Partigiani d'Italia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Associazione Nazionale Partigiani d'Italia (ANPI or ANPI for short, German National Association of Partisans of Italy) was founded in Rome in 1944 by members of the Resistancea , i.e. anti-fascist resistance fighters . The brigades united in the ANPI had fought mainly in the north and center of Italy against the fascist regime of Italy and the German occupation during the Second World War.

On April 5, 1945, the ANPI received the status of a charitable foundation . It has around 110,000 (as of 2010) members, the president is Carla Federica Nespolo. The ANPI is a member of the International Federation of Resistance Fighters (FIR) .

history

Most of the partisans came from central and northern Italy, but there were also fighters from Yugoslavia, Greece and France.

On the day it was founded, the ANPI represented all partisan groups fighting in Italy, including Giustizia e Libertà , the combat units of Ferruccio Parri and Eugenio Colorni (of which Matteo Matteotti was a member), as well as independent and Catholic groups. In 1948, the independent and Catholic groups left the ANPI to create the Federazione Italiana Volontari della Libertà (FIVL). In 1949 the groups around the Giustizia e Libertà also founded their own association, the Federazione Italiana delle Associazioni Partigiane (FIAP).

There are now also sections of the ANPI in three German cities: in Berlin , Cologne and Frankfurt am Main .

aims

ANPI's goals are to maintain the historical role of the partisan war through research and the collection of biographies. She fights against historical revisionism and for the ideals of freedom and democracy enshrined in the constitution of the Italian Republic of 1948.

Members

About 10% of the members were active in partisan warfare, 10% are young people between 18 and 30, the majority (60-65%) are between 35 and 65 years old.

In the three years between 2006 and 2009, the number of members rose from 83,000 to 110,000.
