Monica Guerritore (born January 5, 1958 in Rome ) is an Italian actress .

Life

Guerritore was born in Rome, but grew up in Palmi . Her father Renato De Carmine left the family early; she had a difficult youth that included an escape from the Swiss boarding school she attended. She first appeared as an actress in 1973 in Milan ( Piccolo Teatro di Milano ) in the play Il giardino dei ciliegi ( The Cherry Orchard by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov ) directed by Giorgio Strehler . The first small film roles also fall during this period; her first televised film was shown in 1977, based on Giacomo Puccini's film Manon Lescaut . From 1981 she worked increasingly with Gabriele Lavia .

Her most successful work is the play Jeanne d'Arc , which she wrote in 2004 and which interprets the life of Joan of Arc as a solo piece.

Film leading roles offered her u. a. the French production The Antiques Hunter (L'homme pressé) by Édouard Molinaro , Hunger for Tenderness (Fotografando Patrizia) by Salvatore Samperi and the US two-part TV series Gezinktes Spiel (The Endless Game) by Bryan Forbes .

Since 2001 she has been in a relationship with the politician Roberto Zaccaria . The couple married in Versilia in 2010.
