Marzabotto is a town in Italy in the Emilia-Romagna region in the metropolitan city of Bologna in the Reno Valley near Bologna . The city has 6747 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2009) .
The place is known, among other things, for the Marzabotto massacre , in which the worst war crime by German soldiers during the Second World War took place in Italy in September / October 1944 . Italian press reports that complained Benito Mussolini when Adolf Hitler phone for the massacre.
Near Marzabotto, the best preserved and researched Etruscan city has been excavated (see Marzabotto (ancient city) ).
