Molinella is an Italian municipality with 15,677 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the metropolitan city of Bologna . The municipal area extends over an area of 127.87 km² with an average height above sea level of 8 m.
The area created by sedimentation is completely flat and characterized by numerous flowing waters. The neighboring municipalities are: Argenta ( province of Ferrara ), in the south and in the east the municipality of Medicina , in the southwest Budrio (in German ancient Heuenburg ), while in the northwest the municipality Baricella is located.
The name of the city comes from the Italian word "mulini" (mills), but these have largely disappeared in the meantime.

The most important industries in the area are electronics and mechanics. Mainly agricultural machinery is manufactured, and an important sector is the production and processing of agricultural food. The service industry and the manufacture of agricultural machinery are other important areas.
history
The name Molinella, more precisely the Torre di Santo Stefano della Molinella , appears for the first time in a document from 1322.
On July 25, 1467, the ( Battle of Molinella ) occurred on its territory , in which Bartolomeo Colleoni took part. The battle is known because firearms were used for the first time in history .
The place is also known for the social struggles of the Mondine (rice farmers).
The importance of the place grew because Molinella lies on the border of the provinces of Bologna and Ferrara and was thus a customs crossing point. Customs officers checked everyone who crossed the Idice River or the Po di Primaro by ferry.
One of the largest centers for meteorological research in northern Italy is located in San Pietro Capofiume, a district of Molinella. In 1985 the coldest temperature of all time in the Po Valley was recorded here: -28.8 °.
Molinella's twin town is Tidaholm in Sweden .

Spring is fresh and rainy while autumn is extremely foggy. During the summer it is humid and warm, occasionally interrupted by violent thunderstorms and showers.
