Bentivoglio is an Italian municipality ( comune ) in the metropolitan city of Bologna in Emilia-Romagna . The municipality is located about 15.5 kilometers north-northeast of Bologna . The Canale Emiliano Romagnolo runs through Bentivoglio .

history

The place name originally goes back to the patrician Giovanni II Bentivoglio , who was lord of Bologna (1463–1506). The fort was built by him.
