The municipality is located about 14 kilometers northwest of Bologna . The administrative center of the municipality is located in the district of Padulle.

The Romanesque basilica ( Pieve ) of St. Maria Annunciation and St. Blaise (Italian: Santa Maria Annunziata e San Biagio ) in the Sala district is dated to the year 1096 and is named after the Annunciation of the Lord and St. Blaise of Sebaste .
