Gaggio Montano is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 4899 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the metropolitan city of Bologna in Emilia-Romagna . The municipality is located about 47.5 kilometers southwest of Bologna on the Reno and borders directly on the province of Modena .
history
The community gained notoriety through several SS massacres of the local population during World War II.
Economy and Transport
In 1981 the Saeco company was founded in the municipality and became known as a manufacturer of household appliances. The former Strada Statale 324 del Passo delle Radici and Strada Statale 623 del Passo Brasa (both are provincial roads today) run through the municipality . The Strada Statale 64 Porretana forms together with the Reno the southeastern boundary of the municipality. There is a stop in the Silla district of the Pistoia – Bologna railway line .
Town twinning
Since 1999 there has been a town partnership between Gaggio Montano and the French municipality of Sauveterre .
