Friedrich Arnold (master builder)
Friedrich Johann Andreas Arnold (born January 23, 1786 in Karlsruhe ; † November 24, 1854 ) was a German architect and construction clerk who was in the service of the Grand Duchy of Baden .
Life
Friedrich Arnold came from a carpentry family in Karlsruhe and attended high school in Karlsruhe . He was a student of Friedrich Weinbrenner , who was a cousin of his mother. His older brother Christoph was also an architect.
In 1811 Friedrich Arnold became Professor of Architecture at the University of Freiburg and from 1816 an architect at the Baden War Ministry. In 1825 Arnold became military director of Baden. Barracks and hospitals in Baden and the salt pans in Rappenau and Dürrheim were built according to plans by Friedrich Arnold .
Friedrich Arnold was a member of the Masonic Lodge "Leopold zur Treue" and, since 1810, of the Academy of Arts and Sciences in Livorno . In 1825 the Grand Duke honored him with the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Zähringer Lion .
He was married to Amalie von Stuber († 1855). The later Prussian major general Friedrich Arnold (1823–1881) was his son.
