Francesca Comencini (born August 19, 1961 in Rome ) is an Italian film director .

Life

Comencini is the daughter of the film director Luigi Comencini and sister of the film director and writer Cristina Comencini . After graduating from the Lycée Chateaubriand di Roma , she first studied philosophy , then dropped out after two years and went to France in 1982 . She wrote the autobiographical script for her first film Pianoforte , which premiered in 1984. Her film Mi piace lavorare - Mobbing was invited to the Berlinale 2004 and shown in the Panorama section. It received the Ecumenical Jury Prize for best film in the section. Lo spazio bianco took part in the 2009 Venice Film Festival competition and won several awards. Comencini was a member of the jury at the Venice Film Festival in 2001 and at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2010 . In the same year as her sister Cristina, she was awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in 2005. The feature film Un giorno speciale earned her a second invitation to the Venice Film Festival in 2012 .

Comencini was married to the late French film producer Daniel Toscan du Plantier from 1982 to 1987 . She is a mother of two. Her sisters Paola and Eleonora are also active in the film business.
