Conservatory "Claudio Monteverdi" Bolzano
The conservatory "Claudio Monteverdi" ( Italian Conservatorio "Claudio Monteverdi" di Bolzano ) is a music academy in Bolzano . It is housed in the rooms of the former Dominican monastery on Dominikanerplatz .
history
Musical life in Bolzano in the 19th century was mainly shaped by the local music association, which was founded in 1854. The music school named after Gioachino Rossini developed from the music school of the Musikverein in 1927 , the first director of which was Mario Mascagni . In 1939 the Lyceum Rossini was converted into a royal music conservatory by decree and from then on bore the name of Claudio Monteverdi . In the post-war period, especially in the 1950s, the Bolzano Conservatory achieved international renown when such well-known musicians as the pianist Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli were among its teaching staff. During this time the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition was launched.
On January 1, 2018, the Conservatory was integrated into the Free University of Bozen .
