Accademia nazionale d'arte drammatica

The Accademia nazionale d'arte drammatica ( Italian National Academy of Dramatic Art ) is the only state theater school in Italy . It was founded in 1936 by the theater critic Silvio D'Amico (1887–1955) and has been named after his death. Its seat is in Rome . Funded by the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research and the Ministry of Cultural Goods and Tourism , it awards bachelor and master degrees.

Every year, under the direction of the Ministry of Education, there is a public admission competition to which Italians and foreigners between 18 and 25 years of age with a university entrance qualification can register.

With the support of the Italian Foreign Ministry , numerous exchange programs have been introduced with leading European universities in recent years, including with GITIS in Moscow , the Guildhall School in London , the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona , the Berlin University of the Arts and ENSATT in Lyon . International appearances are carried out regularly.

history

Its predecessor was a drama school from the 19th century that was affiliated with the Accademia di Santa Cecilia at the beginning . It was named after Eleonora Duse and was closed in 1936 when the academy opened. Silvio D'Amico, who had taught the history of theater at the former drama school and was friends with the Nobel Prize winner Luigi Pirandello and the French director Jacques Copeau , took over the artistic direction of the institution for two decades.

A merger with the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia and the national dance academy ( Accademia nazionale di danza ), which was sought in the 1960s, did not materialize.
