Ettore Giannini

Ettore Giannini (born October 15, 1912 in Naples , † November 15, 1990 in Massa Lubrense ) was an Italian theater director and filmmaker.

Life

Giannini had a law degree, but from 1936 devoted himself to writing numerous comedies, initially mainly for radio performances. His short film La prua incantata has received several awards. He studied directing with Guido Salvini and Tatiana Pavlova and assisted Jacques Copeau . From 1940 Giannini was a sought-after stage director and staged plays by u. a. Shaw, Pirandello, Goldoni, Coward, Rattigan and Tolstoy. He staged several operas and ballets for La Scala in Milan . After taking care of dubbing in the 1950s, he returned to staging for the stage in 1964. Rina Morelli and Paolo Stoppa played in The Merchant of Venice .

For the cinema he worked repeatedly and in a wide variety of functions; as screenwriter ( L'anonima Raylott based on his own template 1936, Processo alla città 1952), actor, assistant director or dialogue writer ( Per pochi dollari ancora 1965). His directorial work Carosello napoletano from 1954 with Sophia Loren stands out as a colorful musical about the history of Neapolitan music, not only in its genre.
