Short biography

Scilla Gabel studied acting at the Accademia Nazionale d'Arte Drammatica in Rome , and made her debut as an actress in 1954 with the film drama Tua per la vita . Since she was said to have a visual resemblance to Sophia Loren - in 1957 she even had to play Loren's double in their Oscar- nominated film Boy on a Dolphin - she went under the knife twice at the beginning of her career in order to achieve a more individual look to get. Gabel celebrated her breakthrough in 1958 in the Italian adventure film Capitan Fracassa . 1959 followed her participation in Tarzan's greatest adventure alongside Gordon Scott in the title role and a still unknown Sean Connery .

In the 1960s, Scilla Gabel was soon seen as a sought-after actress in so-called sandal films . In 1961 she stood at the side of Roger Moore in The Robbery of the Sabine Women in front of the camera; only one year later, she appeared in the monumental film Sodom and Gomorrah in 1962 . In 1966 she was won over as an actress for the German-Austrian-Italian co-production The Secret of the Yellow Monks . One of her last great roles she was offered in 1968, when she in the miniseries The Odyssey the Helen of Troy incarnate.

After making just a handful of feature films in the 1970s, including the seven-part miniseries Dov'è Anna? , she withdrew into private life from 1984 onwards.

After a brief liaison with the 17 years older Italian musician Fred Buscaglione (1921–1960), Scilla Gabel married the director Piero Schivazappa in 1968 , with whom they have had a child since 1974.
