Mario Landi (born October 12, 1920 in Messina , † March 18, 1992 in Rome ) was an Italian director .

Life

Landi attended the Accademia d'Arte Drammatica and graduated in 1944 with a diploma in directing. First he went to the “Diogene” cultural circle in Milan, where he staged numerous classics and new pieces. In 1950 he shot a musical comedy with Luciano Tajoli in the leading role for the cinema, but turned intensively to the then new medium of television. For the RAI he was one of the first directors with Mario Ferrero and Daniele D'Anza ; From 1955 to 1979 he and his company were responsible for a considerable number of mostly comedies, including Cime tempestose (1956), Canne al vento (1958), Questi nostri figli (1967) and Nessuno deve sapere (1973). His last television broadcast was in 1979 at Accade ad Ankara . A highlight of his television work is the series Inchieste del commissario Maigret , all of the sixteen episodes of which he directed between 1964 and 1972 and which is still one of the greatest successes of Italian television today.

For the cinema, Landi staged rather obscure works on his very occasional excursions, which stand in strange contrast to the quality of his television work. At the end of his career there are two bloodthirsty horror films .

Landi has received numerous awards.
