Margherita Buy (born January 15, 1962 in Rome ) is an Italian actress . She is one of the most prominent actresses in Italian cinema. With fourteen nominations, she was awarded the most important Italian film prize, David di Donatello , five times . Six times (out of thirteen nominations) she received the Nastro d'Argento , the award of Italian film journalists.

She trained as an actress at the Accademia nazionale d'arte drammatica in Rome, where she also met her future husband, the actor and director Sergio Rubini (* 1959). Margherita Buy initially played theater roles, including in several pieces by Umberto Marino . She made her debut in front of the camera in 1983 with a small role in the comedy Flipper by Andrea Barzini . Her first cinema appearance was in 1986 in the female lead in Nino Bizarri's atmospheric film La seconda notte, a “chamber sonata for two instruments” about memory and love. The French actor Maurice Garrel plays an older widower who visits a remote spa hotel where he met his late wife years ago. When a girl played by Margherita Buy shows up in the hotel and reminds him of his wife, he courted her anonymously through letters. However, Margherita Buy first caught the audience's attention with her roles in the comedies Of Robbers, Cavaliers and Harmonious People (1988) and La settimana della sfinge (1990), for which she was awarded the prize at the San Sebastián Film Festival, directed by Daniele Luchetti was awarded for best actress.
