Corrado Gaipa (born March 13, 1925 in Palermo , † September 21, 1989 ) was an Italian actor and voice actor who appeared in many Italian films. He became internationally known in 1972 through the role of Don Tommasino in the film The Godfather by Francis Ford Coppola .

life and work

Gaipa was born in Palermo, Sicily. From 1946 he studied at the Accademia nazionale d'arte drammatica in Rome and then worked as a theater actor. After first film roles in Italian films in the 1960s, he took over the role of the Sicilian mafioso Don Tommasino in The Godfather in 1972 . His walking difficulties caused by illness were transferred to the role of Don Tommasino . In the second part of the godfather it is shown how Don Tommasino is shot in the legs, which explains his later complaints and his use of the wheelchair. Gaipa died shortly before filming the last part of the trilogy, his role was taken over by Vittorio Duse .

Gaipa was also active for television and radio, and he also worked intensively as a voice actor . In films, he was the Italian voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original trilogy of Star Wars films, the voice of Baghira in the Italian-language version of the Jungle Book, and the owl in the Italian-language version of Winnie the Pooh and the Dog Weather . He spoke to actors like Lionel Stander , Eli Wallach , Peter Ustinov , Rod Steiger , Orson Welles , Burt Lancaster and Spencer Tracy in Italian film versions.
