The Klimow M-105 ( Russian Климов М-105 ) was a V12 aircraft engine that was used in many Soviet aircraft types of the Second World War .

development

The M-105 was based on Klimow's experience with the Hispano-Suiza 12 Y, which was produced under license as the Klimow M-100. However, the engine had numerous improvements, which made it one of the most powerful V12 engines of the Second World War. It is one of the most popular aircraft engines ever built.

At first, like all Soviet engines, it was designated with M (for engine, мотор) followed by a number. During the Second World War, the designation system was changed, the engines now received abbreviations from the initials of the developers, the number remained. There was thus obtained from the M-105 of WK-105 (for W ladimir K limow).
