Accademia di Belle Arti

Accademia di belle arti (“Academy of Fine Arts”) is the name given to art schools in Italy .

The academies of fine arts belong to the tertiary education sector of the Italian education system . Together with the music academies and some other specialized institutions, they form the so-called Alta formazione artistica, musicale e coreutica , or AFAM for short. The course is based on the Bologna Process . After three years of study, a Diploma accademico di I level ( Bachelor ) can be achieved, after two further years a Diploma accademico di II level ( Master ), possibly after at least three further years a Diploma accademico di formazione alla ricerca ( doctorate) ).

The world's first art academy was founded in Florence in 1563 with the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno .
