Vittorio Caprioli (born August 15, 1921 in Naples , † October 2, 1989 there ) was an Italian actor and film director .

Life

Caprioli received his training at the Accademia Nazionale d'Arte Drammatica , where he graduated in 1941 and made his debut the following year as a theater actor in the company of Laura Carli and Corrado Racca . In 1948 he moved to the Piccolo Teatro di Milano , where he also played under Giorgio Strehler ; he performed alongside Vittorio De Sica , Nino Besozzi , Vivi Gioi and Sergio Tofano . Since 1945 he had also worked for various RAI programs .

In 1950 he founded the Teatro dei Gobbi with Franca Valeri and Alberto Bonucci , with which he achieved success with critics and audiences in the 1950s through unconventional productions and innovative pieces. At the end of the 1950s he had his breakthrough as a film actor , mostly in comic roles, after he had already accepted role offers from time to time. In the 1960s and 1970s he increasingly neglected the theater in favor of his cinema career, occasionally taking over the direction himself. In the 1980s he returned to the stage more often after a not choosy extensive filmography and starred in La bottega del caffè , I ragazzi di tutti and his greatest success, Six people are looking for an author . He was also often heard on radio broadcasts; TV work was also inevitable.

Caprioli was married to fellow actor Franca Valeri until 1974 .
