Vivi Gioi

Vivi Gioi (actually Vivienne Trumpy ; born January 2, 1914 in Livorno , † July 12, 1975 in Fregene ) was an Italian actress .

Life

Gioi, the daughter of an Italian and a Norwegian, was the flagship blonde of Italian cinema in the late 1930s and until the mid-1940s. With her slim mannequin figure, the cheerful actress was the most popular actress in the Telefoni Bianchi comedies, of which the title Bionda sotto chiave , her first film from 1939, has a programmatic effect on Gioi's perception.

In 1936 she began in a small role in the film Ma non è una cosa seria , in which she appeared as Vivien Diesca as a homage to her beloved Vittorio De Sica . Her participation in the following film by Mario Camerini was almost entirely cut out of the published version. Two years later, from 1939, she made film on film. This labor frenzy bore fruit by 1942 at the latest, when it had become a star. She remained in demand and popular and in her first post-war role (and after a 2 year hiatus) she played the role of her life in Giuseppe De Santis ' Caccia tragica , that of a hysterical and cruel woman who works against the partisans during the worst of times of war. A silver ribbon as an award for her interpretation was the reward. After that, however, the film Gioi could no longer offer suitable roles; until 1951 she played mainly some now forgotten melodramas.

She had already started performing on stage in 1944; she played under Luchino Visconti in private company and in the wedding of Figaro in 1945/1946. In the season 1947/1948 she was in an ensemble and Carlo Ninchi and Aroldo Tieri under contract, two years later a. a. with Marcello Mastroianni , then with Vittorio Gassman , Edda Albertini and Massimo Girotti in the “Compagnia del Teatro Nazionale” under Guido Salvini . Other highlights of her theatrical work were Dream Girl , directed by Morton DaCosta , La ragazza da portare in collo under Alessandro Brissoni and Der Reigen (1959) by Arthur Schnitzler . She ended her stage career that same year with two new pieces by Shelagh Delaney and Françoise Sagan .

In addition to a few television appearances in the 1950s, she was only seen in supporting roles in four films after 1951; the last two were obscure genre works of the spaghetti Westerns or the detective film .
