Mario Camerini
Mario Camerini (born February 6, 1895 in Rome , † February 4, 1981 in Gardone Riviera , Brescia , Lombardy ) was an Italian director .
life and work
Camerini had to interrupt his law studies when he was drafted because of the First World War ; he saw its end as a prisoner of war in Austria . An early draft of the script by the student was implemented as early as 1913 .
With the help of his brother Augusto and his cousin Augusto Genina and as their assistant he gained a foothold in the film business from 1920; first as a screenwriter, then as an assistant director . From 1923 he also directed himself, for example Maciste contro lo sceicco (1926) or the comedy Gli uomini, che mascalzoni! with Vittorio De Sica , who was at the beginning of a whole series of popular successes. Kiff Tebbi from 1928, made in Africa, is also one of the more interesting films of that time.
After the Second World War , Camerini was a reliable director of comedies and adventure films , which also represented her country at festivals. In 1947 his film Uprising in Siberia (with Vittorio Gassman ) was presented at the Cannes Festival . At the 2nd Berlinale in 1952, his wife was in competition for one night . In 1954, Camerini shot the adventure film The Journeys of Odysseus with Kirk Douglas in the title role. He was involved as a screenwriter in the film War and Peace (director: King Vidor ).
With two exceptions, Camerini ended his career in the mid-1960s.
