From tomorrow we are rich and honest is an Austrian-Italian-French-German gangster film comedy from 1976. Directed by Franz Antel play Arthur Kennedy , Curt Jurgens and Carroll Baker , the lead roles.

action

Michael "Mike" Jannacone has withdrawn into his well-deserved retirement in the Abruzzo village of Roccasecca. He once had a reputation in the United States like Donnerhall as an all-powerful mafia godfather. Now he wants to enjoy his old age in his old homeland, Italy. He was only able to leave the USA because he owns tapes of American politicians and he can therefore weigh heavily on Senator Shelton, who is currently in the presidential election campaign. These tapes are Jannacone's old-age insurance and are stored in the safe of the bank in the neighboring village of Roccafreddo. Now Jannacone is an extremely vain gang boss. He wrote his memoirs, and since his lover Polly put this flea in his ear, Jannacone intends to film what he sees as a “great” life as a former kingpin - with Polly in the female lead, of course. For this costly project, however, Mike needs the change, and Senator Shelton is supposed to help him again. Never finicky in the choice of his means, Jannacone uses the tried and tested means of blackmail and tries to put Shelton under pressure from then on. To increase the pressure, Shelton's daughter Moira is finally "kidnapped" by a local crook.

Shooting will start soon. During the filming of Jannacone's first bank robbery, a serious mishap happens: Mario and Nino, two moderately talented and rather dumb young actors, come to the wrong location. You mistook Roccasecca for Roccafreddo and unintentionally become real bank robbers without a film crew. During their big fishing trip, they promptly steal Jannacone's old-age insurance, the papers incriminating Shelton. This is not hidden from some real mafia gangsters. A wild hunt for the papers begins. The real crooks demand on behalf of Jannacone's successor in the USA, they should kill the retired Mafia godfather without further ado. Jannacone, in turn, chases the two bank robbers against his will because he wants his "life insurance" back. After countless twists and turns, Jannacone gets the tapes back into his hands. And in the chaos of events, stuntman Nino also found time and opportunity to fall in love with Moira, who even reciprocates his feelings.

Production notes

Since Franz Antel was toying with a career in Hollywood , he negotiated with an American distribution company in Rome and, after several weeks, concluded a forty-page contract for a film to be made. A clause of this contract stated that the film had to be originally shot in English. From tomorrow we're rich and honest 1975 was shot in Italy. The studio recordings were made in Cinecittà . Antel business partner Carl Szokoll was in charge of production.

The premiere was on April 2, 1976 in Campione d'Italia , the German premiere on June 17, 1977. However, since two roles had been dubbed, Antel was accused of breach of contract by his American distributor, because the film was not shot entirely in the original sound been. The American premiere expected by Antel did not take place, which meant that hopes for a Hollywood career were dashed.

The film was also broadcast on television under the title The Mafia lets greet you .

Reviews

"A confused and wild slapstick without any quality."

"Coppola's" The Godfather "inspired Franz Antel to parody Mafia films. The result is one of his signature clothes. (...) Conclusion: This rubbish should be set in concrete and sunk. "
