occupation

The Toplitzsee Treasure / Shots at Dawn is a crime film by Franz Antel that was shot in 1959 .

The black and white feature film from 1959 was shot on the original locations. It shows the search of the star reporter Löhde in search of the secrets of the boxes sunk by the National Socialists in the Toplitzsee at the end of the Second World War .

background

In 1959, Stern reporter Wolfgang Löhde recovered 17 boxes full of counterfeit pound notes and two boxes with documents in Lake Toplitz from a depth of 80 meters, which had been produced as part of the Bernhard campaign and sunk here by an SS commando during the last days of the war. Director Franz Antel decided to film this and worked closely with Löhde during the filming. Since the film was not very successful, Antel did not venture into a similar project.

Reviews
