action

Paul Scheibner is at the Spanish Riding School to be trained as a dressage rider. He works passionately with the stallion "Maestoso". His girlfriend, a boutique owner, doesn't like it at all and she wants her boyfriend to work in her parents' business. Paul separates from her, but she wants to make him jealous of a rich hotelier's son. But Paul doesn't have time for lovesickness, because the training needs all his attention. This is where the pretty and animal-loving stud secretary Julia comes into play. Paul falls in love, but Maestoso falls ill. Paul learns, dismayed, that his sick friend is about to be sold. Paul wants to buy the stallion himself. Julia's aunt, the circus owner Louise, promises him to put the stallion in her circus. Julia now wants to help too, with the help of a coachman, and gets some medicine. The coachman steals the medicine from the stud pharmacy, which Julia doesn't know. Julia has to go to the police and loses her job. Paul's teacher at the Riding School forbids him to interact with her out of concern for her reputation. Paul doesn't care and wants to help her, but Julia suddenly disappears without a trace.

Production notes

While looking for a new film idea, Franz Antel came across the saying that the real Viennese are either a choirboy , a councilor or a Lipizzaner . Since he had not yet made a film about the latter, he decided to pay tribute to the white stallions, and Lisa-Film and RTL were immediately ready to support him. Together with the young Tyrolean author Edi Ehrlich, he wrote the script himself.

His attempt to get a real Lipizzaner from the Riding School for filming outside the Riding School was rejected. Then he remembered that a Lipizzaner had been bought by Stangl host Balthasar Hauser from Going during the Licht ins Dunkel campaign . This horse, called Maestoso Ancona, still ruled the high school , and so Antel made him the leading actor in his film.

The shooting took place at the Piber stud , in the riding school and in a circus. Sascha Wussow learned to ride perfectly for his role in just four weeks. Since the scene in which the Lipizzaner was supposed to lie down and play sick did not take place, a normal gray from the amateur play group had to step in as a double.

With the permission of the Mayor of Vienna Helmut Zilk , the film team was able to shoot the opening together with the Austrian newsreel during the Wiener Festwochen . These scenes make up the big parade at the end of the film.
