history

Allegedly the place is first mentioned in 1140/45 as Gǒingen and 1166/70 as Gowingen in the tradition book of Baumburg Monastery . The place name is derived from a Bavarian nobleman, Guowo or Gauwo. This suggests a Bavarian foundation. However, according to the latest research, both names of names refer to the Upper Bavarian Gauing in the Traunstein district .

Going's village church is one of the most beautiful rococo churches in Tyrol. It is consecrated to the Holy Cross and the martyr Laurentius . The builder was Andrä Hueber, the fresco artist Matthias Kirchner , both from Kitzbühel. The altars and figures of saints were designed by Thomas Blieml from Going. A remarkable Madonna, carved around 1480, stands in the altar niche on the left side altar.

At the Rehrobichl between Going and Oberndorf, copper and silver were mined in the first quarter of the 16th century. The miners were settled in the Prama district. Prama is Celtic and means: where the blackberries grow. This is probably an indication of Celtic settlement. The Celts lived in this area as early as 800 BC. Mined copper and silver . The mine was closed around 1773. During the peak period, around 12,000 kilograms of copper and around 7,000 kilograms of silver were mined annually. The smelter was located in the Litzelfelden district near Kirchdorf . The deepest, vertical shaft was around 880 meters deep.
