life and work

As the son of a judge, Tofano initially studied law, but also had acting ambitions. From 1909 he was a member of several theater groups and began a career as an illustrator with the pseudonym Sto . From 1914 to 1923 he drew for the magazine Il Numero , on October 28, 1917 his most famous comic figure, Signor Bonaventure , appeared for the first time in Il Corriere dei Piccoli . Tofano not only drew this character until 1953, but also brought her onto the stage repeatedly , who always began her adventures poorly and was richer by a million lire at the end of each story without any merit of his own .

Together with the actress Rosetta Tofano , with whom he was married from 1923 until her suicide in 1960, Tofano had a son, the director and screenwriter Gilberto Tofano .
