action

The story takes place shortly after the end of the Second World War in the Italian city of Naples. Cicillo is the head of a gang of adolescents who have neither a home nor parents, who make a living by stealing and scamming and who cannot distinguish between good and bad. The young Father Borrelli wants to change this. Disguised as a sailor, he seeks contact with the stranded and is finally accepted into their community under the name "Vesuvio". After believing that he has fully won the young people's trust, he reveals himself to them as a priest. In this capacity, he now wants to turn the bombed-out housing of the young people into a publicly recognized home supported by the state. However, many do not agree with this and turn away from him, especially the gang leader Cicillo. Don Vesuvio, however, stubbornly pursues his plan. He receives active support not only from the young people who have stayed, but also from Professor Spada and his wife.

Little by little the public became interested in the priest's project. The house of the rascals is growing more and more into a real home for teenagers, from which they dare to start a new life, away from any crime. One day even the obdurate Cicillo asks for admission.

criticism
