Nino Taranto

Antonio Eduardo "Nino" Taranto (born August 28, 1907 in Naples , † February 23, 1986 there ) was an Italian actor, comedian and singer.

The son of a tailor already appeared as a macchietta singer as a child. He received vocal training from Salvatore Capaldo and made his debut at the age of twelve with EA Mario's song E l'edera sei tu . At the same time he made his film debut in Eugenio Perego's silent film Vedi Napoli e poi muori, and later became a member of Mimì Maggio's Compagnia dei piccoli at the Teatro Pertenope in Foria, where he worked with colleagues such as Pupella Maggio , Gino Maringola , Ugo D'Alessio and Nello Ascoli appeared.

From 1929 he became successful as a Macchietta singer in the Compagnia Cafiero-Fumo with pieces such as Ciccio Formaggio . He also appeared in comedies by Giuseppe Marotta and Raffaele Viviani such as L'ultimo scugnizzo , L'imbroglione onesto , Morte di Carnevale , Il vicolo , La figliata , Don Giacinto , Guappo di cartone and Sposalizio . Works by Guglielmo Giannini , Salvatore Di Giacomo , Giulio Scarnicci , Renzo Tarabusi , Titina De Filippo , Libero Bovio and Luigi Pirandello were also part of his repertoire.

In 1955 he took part in the Festival di Napoli with the song O ritratto 'e Nanninella . He returned here in changing roles - as a singer, author and presenter - in 1958 and 1967 and won first and second prizes in 1967 with the songs O matusa and A prutesta . At the Le nuove Canzoni di Napoli Festival in 1973 he was a presenter and singer. His song Lusingame, composed by Mario Festa , had great success .

As a film actor, Taranto has appeared in more than 80 films, including six films with the famous comedian Totò . In the 1970s he also took part in television productions such as Milleluci and Senza Rete . He presented his own career in 1984 in the production Taranto Story . His last appearances were with his brother Carlo Taranto in the company of Luisa Conte .
