Wanda Marasco

Wanda Marasco (born May 6, 1953 in Naples ) is an Italian writer.

Life

Wanda Marasco completed her studies in philosophy with a laureate and then studied acting and theater directing at the Accademia nazionale d'arte drammatica "Silvio D'Amico" in Rome with Ruggero Jacobbi (1920–1981). Marasco became a teacher for lettere at the vocational school (Istituto Tecnico Industriale) Galileo Ferraris in the poor district of Scampia in Naples.

Marasco published her first volume of poetry Gli strumenti scordati in 1977 . She has received various literary prizes, including the Premio Montale in 1997 for the short story Voc e Poè , the Premio Bagutta Opera Prima in 2003 for the novel L'arciere d'infanzia , and in 2004 the Premio Bagutta . The novel Il genio dell'abbandono about the painter Vincenzo Gemito came on the longlist of the Premio Strega in 2015 and was staged in the Teatro Stabile di Napoli. In 2017 her novel La compagnia delle anime finte was shortlisted for the Premio Strega, and it was also translated into German.
