Antonio Crast (born July 5, 1911 in Parenzo , now Croatia , † March 21, 1984 in Rome ) was an Italian actor .

Life

Crast passed his acting diploma from the Accademia d'Arte Drammatica and worked in the 1932/1933 season with Ermete Zacconi and then with Alexander Moissi . From 1936 to 1938 he again attended courses to improve his art of representation. He then remained a member of the Academy's theater ensemble until 1941. 1941/1942 saw him at the side of Laura Adani . After the interruption of his career by the Second World War, he played in 1946 under Alessandro Blasetti's direction in The Petrified Forest . Employed at the Piccolo Teatro in Rome in the 1948/1949 season, he became one of the preferred actors of Orazio Costa , under whose direction he staged numerous classics. A time under Giorgio Strehler followed at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan ; 1955/1956 Crast played in Milan.

Crast, who saw himself primarily as a man of the theater, he appeared in only seven films between 1946 and 1958, in which he interpreted juicy supporting roles. In contrast, he was more often involved in radio broadcasts and some television productions ( Vita di Michelangelo 1964). After his active career in the late 1950s, he devoted himself to training the next generation.
