César Campodónico

César Campodónico (born August 7, 1929 in Montevideo , Uruguay , † April 10, 2005 ) was a Uruguayan theater director , actor and lecturer.

Life

Campodónico took acting classes at the Teatro del Pueblo from 1947 to 1949 . In 1949 he was co-founder of the Teatro El Galpón , whose board of directors he was also a member for many years and at whose drama school he taught as well as at other drama schools on the American continent. From 1955 to 1956 he deepened his education at the Accademia d'Arte Drammatica "Silvio D'Amico" in Rome . In 1964 he went to the Théâtre National Populaire (TNP) in France and studied at the Sorbonne . During the civil-military dictatorship, Campodónico went into exile in Buenos Aires in 1976 and then to Mexico in 1977 . He stayed there until 1984.

Campodónico has worked as a director in Uruguay, Mexico, El Salvador and Colombia . His productions included pieces such as El tío Vania , Las brujas de Salem and La segura manos de Dios . Together with Atahualpa del Cioppo he brought Artigas, General del Pueblo to the stage. ¿Quién le teme a Virginia Wolff? he performed with the Colombian National Theater .

Awards

In Bogotá he received the Order of Merit ( Orden al Mérito ) from the local city administration ( Alcaldía ). Since 2007, the Sala "César Campodónico", a hall of the Teatro El Galpón, has borne his name.
