Gregor Loepfe

Gregor Loepfe (* 1971 in Zurich ) is a Swiss pianist , composer and musicologist .

Life

Gregor Loepfe received his first piano lessons at the age of seven. After graduating from the Baden Cantonal School, he studied classical piano at the Music Academy of the City of Basel with Rolf Mäser and graduated in 1995 with a teaching diploma with distinction in the main subject. During his studies he also received inspiration from Jean-Jacques Dünki , Gérard Wyss , Jürg Wyttenbach and Paul Clemann . He finished Christian Favre's concert class at the Conservatoire de Lausanne in 1996 with the "diplôme supérieur" and in 1998 with a "Premier Prix de Virtuosité avec félicitations". Master classes with Rudolf Buchbinder , Brigitte Engerer , Peter Feuchtwanger and András Schiff complemented his studies.

In parallel to classical music, Gregor Loepfe is intensively involved with jazz (lessons with Adrian Frey , Thierry Lang , Vince Benedetti , Enrico Pieranunzi , Franco D'Andrea , Kenny Barron , Hans Feigenwinter ). Studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston with Ray Santisi , Joanne Brackeen , Hal Crook and Bruno Råberg .

In 2012 Gregor Loepfe completed his studies at the University of Zurich with a degree in musicology and history. In his licensed thesis he dealt with the subject of "Bach and Jazz".

Gregor Loepfe is a lecturer for piano at the Baden Cantonal School. He gives concerts as a classical pianist in chamber music formations at home and abroad, as a soloist ( Orchestra Musikkollegium Winterthur , Basler Festival Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra 65 and others) and as a jazz pianist in various band projects (Gregor Loepfe Trio, Five On Fire and others).

He also appeared as a cabaret pianist. He received various composition commissions for ballet (Margot Parsons Dance Company Boston), film, musical (SchwerLos, Der Grosse Preis), podcasts, theater, chamber music and journalistic activities for radio and print media were other activities. He has been a member of the Music Commission since 2004 and has been a member of the Braunwald Music Week since 2006. In addition to teaching, Loepfe works as a music editor at Radio SRF 2 Kultur and as a web content producer at Radio Swiss Jazz .
