Luca Marinelli (born October 22, 1984 in Rome ) is an Italian actor .

Life

Marinelli's father was already active in the film business; he was a voice actor . With his grandmother he watched the classics of Italian post-war cinema such as Bicycle Thieves by Vittorio De Sica and Man Called It the Great War by Mario Monicelli . So Nino Manfredi , Vittorio Gassman and Marcello Mastroianni became his artistic role models. Luca Marinelli's first steps in film began as a boy in the dubbing studio. He and his cousin spoke to one of Mickey Mouse's nephews in an Italian dubbed version. In Rome he graduated from the "Liceo Cornelio Tacito succursale", a humanistic grammar school ( Liceo classico ). In 2003, after graduating from high school, he attended a course in screenwriting and acting with the screenwriter and writer Guillermo Glanc . From 2006 he studied acting at the Accademia Nazionale d'Arte Drammatica Silvio D'Amico , where he graduated in 2009 with an acting diploma.

During his studies he already played theater; even after graduating, he worked as a theater actor. In the 2009/10 and 2011/12 seasons he played the roles of Nick Bottom / Pyramus in Shakespeare's comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream at various Italian theaters (including Teatro Pubblico Pugliese, Teatro Vascello in Rome, Teatro Franco Parenti in Milan) in a production of the Teatro stable delle Marche directed by Carlo Cecchi .

He played his first film role in the Italian drama The Solitude of Prime Numbers (2010) directed by Saverio Costanzo . Marinelli, who had to gain over 16 kilos for this role, embodied the "disturbed" and "introverted" Mattia Balossino, who is plagued by feelings of guilt over the death of his sister who has been left alone. In the Italian science fiction film L'ultimo terrestre (2011; The Last Man on Earth ) he portrayed a transsexual as Roberta . In the German-Italian television film Your Name Was Maria (2012), he played alongside Alissa Jung , the biblical figure of Mary's fiancé Joseph . In the romantic Italian love comedy Tutti i santi giorni (2012; Every Blessed Day ) he played the main male role, the night porter Guido Caselli, a passionate lover of classical literature and ancient history. In the Italian-French co-production La Grande Bellezza - The Great Beauty (2013), he had a smaller role than Andrea, directed by Paolo Sorrentino . He embodied a young man suffering from mental health problems who eventually committed suicide. In the Italian feature film Non essere cattivo (2015; Don't Be Bad ), Claudio Caligari's last film , he played one of the two main male roles. In this story about the friendship of two young Roman men , often reminiscent of Pasolini's films, he embodied the role of the protagonist Cesare, who is sinking socially as the friendship between the two men becomes more distant.

In January 2016 he was seen in a leading role in the ZDF two-parter The Pillars of Power . He played the "sly" and "unscrupulous" South American businessman and "Latino libertine" Mickey Miranda. Tittelbach.tv wrote of an "excellent" game by Marinelli.

In 2013 Marinelli was for his role in Tutti i santi giorni as best actor for the David di Donatello Prize ( David di Donatello per il miglior attore protagonista ), the Nastro d'Argento ( Nastro d'argento al migliore attore protagonista ) and the Globo d'oro ( Globo d'oro al miglior attore ) nominated.

In 2020 he was appointed to the competition jury of the 70th Berlin International Film Festival .

Marinelli lives in Berlin and Rome. His partner is the German actress and doctor Alissa Jung .
