Claudio Caligari (born February 7, 1948 in Arona ; † May 26, 2015 ) was an Italian director and screenwriter .

Life

Caligari has mainly appeared as a writer of documentary films, since his first film Perché droga in 1975. He almost always worked with Franco Barbero . He first directed for the cinema in 1983; the meager drama Amore tossico about the everyday life of young drug addicts was followed by another work fifteen years later, L'odore della notte, based on the novel by Dido Sacchettoni ; a reminiscence of the police films of the 1970s shot with stylistic ambitions . Another film followed in 2005, but it was only shown in a few cinemas. Shortly before his death in May 2015, Caligari finished work on his last film Non essere cattivo , which premiered posthumously at the Venice Film Festival on September 7, 2015 .
