Helmut Siefert

Helmut Siefert (born January 26, 1939 in Berlin ; † August 8, 2012 in Bad Salzhausen ) was a German medical historian .

Life

Siefert studied medicine in Berlin and Marburg . In 1967 he did his doctorate with Gunter Mann and Fritz Hartmann in Marburg with the dissertation The scientific and medical associations in the German-speaking area (1750-1850) to become Dr. med.

From 1967 to 1972 he was a research assistant at the Institute for the History of Medicine at the Philipps University of Marburg and at the Senckenberg Institute for the History of Medicine at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . In 1972 he received an H2 professorship for the history of medicine in Frankfurt, which was converted into a C2 professorship in 1978. At the same time, from 1995 until his retirement in 2004, he was Managing Director of the Senckenberg Institute for the History of Medicine. In 1982, he completed additional training in deep psychology-based psychotherapy from.

Siefert was responsible for an edition of Georg Groddeck's writings from 1978–1984 . He also worked for the Frankfurt doctor Heinrich Hoffmann , the creator of Struwwelpeter .

Helmut Siefert was co-author of the medical dictionary edited by Wolfgang U. Eckart and Christoph Gradmann , the third edition of which appeared in 2006. Among other things, he wrote the biography of Alexander Mitscherlich .

Siefert was a predicant of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau and a meditation and contemplation teacher at the Via Cordis community in Flüeli-Ranft . He lived in Bad Salzhausen , was married and has a son.
