Eliahu Inbal
Eliahu Inbal ( Hebrew אליהו ענבל; * February 16, 1936 in Jerusalem ) is an Israeli conductor .
Life
Eliahu Inbal began studying violin and composition with Paul Ben-Haim at the Music Academy in Jerusalem . Following a recommendation from Leonard Bernstein , the extremely talented young musician received a scholarship for further training in the conducting class of the Paris Conservatory . He also attended courses with Sergiu Celibidache and Franco Ferrara (at Radio Nederland Wereldomroep in Hilversum ).
In 1962 he was chosen as the first prize winner of the international conductor competition "Guido Cantelli" in Novara. This opened the door to a great career for him. Since then he has performed with practically all of the world's leading orchestras and at international festivals.
From 1974 to 1990 Inbal directed the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra of the Hessischer Rundfunk . The recordings with the complete symphonic recordings by Mahler and Bruckner as well as the orchestral works by Berlioz were awarded prizes. The orchestral works by Schönberg , Berg , Webern , as well as the symphonies by Brahms , Tchaikovsky , Shostakovich and Schumann were also recorded under Inbal's direction. In 1996 he was appointed honorary conductor.
From 1984 to 1987 Eliahu Inbal was also “Direttore Musicale Principale” (chief conductor) of the orchestra of the Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice .
From 1996 to 2001 Inbal was chief conductor of the Orchestra Nazionale della RAI in Turin. Here he led in the first three years, the Ring of Wagner concert on. For this he received the Italian critic prizes Premio Franco Abbiati della Critica Musicale Italiana (1995) and Premio Gian Battista Viotti (1999). In his home country Israel, however, he came under the crossfire of criticism because there Wagner's music is still seen in close connection with National Socialism .
From 2001 to 2006 he was chief conductor of the Berlin Symphony Orchestra and has been an honorary member there ever since. From September 2007 to 2011 he was again chief conductor of the orchestra of the Gran Teatro La Fenice , from autumn 2009 to June 2012 chief conductor of the Czech Philharmonic in Prague and from April 2008 to 2014 chief conductor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra .
