Peter Weiermair

Peter Weiermair (born April 22, 1944 in Steinhöring , Upper Bavaria ) is an art historian and editor . He was director of the Frankfurter Kunstverein , the Salzburg Rupertinum and the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Bologna ( Italy ). He is currently working as a freelance curator mainly in Austria . He has published numerous publications on body photography in the 19th and 20th centuries.

biography

Peter Weiermair studied art history , German and philosophy in Innsbruck and Vienna . In 1964/65 he was the editor of the magazine “views ”, in 1966 he founded the publishing house“ allerheiligenpresse ”and in 1968 the“ forum for contemporary art ”in Innsbruck, which he headed until 1979.

From 1980 to 1998 Peter Weiermair was director of the Frankfurter Kunstverein . The Kunstverein is a major exhibition center for contemporary art and organizes events to promote contemporary art and artists.

From 1998 to 2001 Weiermair was director of the Rupertinum Collection in Salzburg. The building in the old town was extended by a new building on the Mönchsberg , the Museum der Moderne Salzburg . The Rupertinum is a well-known house for national and international exhibition projects on classical modernism, contemporary art and contemporary art. It has over 12,000 graphics, paintings and sculptures and over 15,000 works of photographic art.

From 2001 to 2007 he was director of the “Galleria d'Arte Moderna” in Bologna (Italy). From 2007 to 2011 Weiermair curated the annual exhibition of Frankfurt guest artists in the Atelierfrankfurt in Frankfurt am Main.

As the former president of the "International Association of Curators of Contemporary Art" (IKT), Weiermair has good contacts to renowned collections in Europe . In 1998 the Frankfurt magistrate awarded him the Goethe plaque of the city of Frankfurt am Main .

Weiermair lives as a freelance curator in Innsbruck (Austria). He is curator at the European Forum Alpbach .
