Jürgen Klauke (born September 6, 1943 in Kliding near Cochem on the Moselle ) is a German artist.

life and work

From 1964 to 1970 Klauke studied graphic design at the Cologne factory schools and was appointed master student of Alfred Will .

Klauke's early work dealt primarily with the human body and its gender identity. As early as the early 1970s, he was one of the first to recognize the possibilities of “photography” as a means of artistic expression and thus became one of the most striking representatives of the later body art . His often provocative works are now an integral part of the German photo art scene. Klauke's work usually consists of entire thematic cycles and performances .

Jürgen Klauke participated in documenta 8 in 1987 .

From 1983 to 1994 he was a professor at the University of Essen (Folkwang University). a. Achim Mohné , Eva Bertram and Steff Adams . From 1994 to 2008 he was professor for artistic photography at the Art Academy for Media in Cologne . Klauke lives and works in Cologne.
