Jon Kristian Svaland (born September 21, 1979 ) is a former Norwegian biathlete .
Career
Jon Kristian Svaland started for the first time at the Junior World Championships in 1998, which were held in Jericho and Valcartier . He finished 19th in the sprint. A year later he was able to win the silver medal in the relay at the Junior World Championships in Pokljuka with Geir Ole Steinslett , Stian Eckhoff and Syver Berg-Domaas and came 14th in the sprint and eighth in the pursuit. It wasn't until 2002 that the Norwegian was nominated again for a major event at the European Championships in Kontiolahti . The best result was seventh place in the sprint. For the 2002/03 season Svaland made his debut in the European Biathlon Cup . In his first race, an individual in Ål , he finished 28th. It took two years before the Norwegian was again used internationally in a strong team. In Geilo he achieved his first top ten result in the European Cup as tenth in the sprint. In the following season, Svaland took third place in the individual in Obertilliach for the first time on the podium. Since the season he has been able to establish himself in the Norwegian team. In Osrblie he was also able to present himself for the first time in the biathlon world cup in 2005 and finished 43rd in the individual. It is Svaland's best World Cup placement so far. The highlight of the season, however, were the European Championships in Langdorf . After 36th place in the individual, 21st place in the sprint and eleven in the pursuit, he won the bronze medal in the relay with Håkon Andersen , Alexander Os and Hans Martin Gjedrem . In 2007/08 , Svaland achieved the best European Cup placement of his career so far in Torsby with second place in the sprint behind Andrei Prokunin . In Osrblie he was also able to take second place with a mixed German-Norwegian relay. At the season highlight, the European Championships, he was only able to achieve 43rd place in the individual.
After the 2009/10 season , Svaland ended his sporting career.
After his active career, he became a trainer and ski technician. As of the 2014/15 season, he will look after the Norwegian women's national team as an assistant in the summer months and will be the Norwegian national team's waxer in the autumn and winter.
