Andrei Viktorovich Prokunin

Andrei Wiktorowitsch Prokunin ( Russian Андрей Викторович Прокунин ; born May 7, 1978 in Pavlovsky Posad ) is a former Russian biathlete and today's biathlon trainer .

Andrei Prokunin, a police officer from Moscow , has been running biathlon since 1987 and competes for Tuschino Moscow . He made his international debut in 1998 at the Junior World Championships in Jericho , where he won gold in the sprint and bronze in the individual. In 1999 he made his debut in Pokljuka in the Biathlon World Cup as 51st in the singles of Osrblie . In his second race, a sprint in Pokljuka, he won World Cup points for the first time in 15th place. The highlight of the season was the first participation in the biathlon world championships . At the Holmenkollen in Oslo , he came in 29th in both the sprint and the pursuit. In summer he made fourth place with the Russian relay at the World Championships in the summer biathlon in Khanty-Mansiysk .

The next season brought Prokunins best results. With the relay (with Sergei Roschkow , Michail Kotschkin and Alexei Kobelew ) he was third in Antholz, in Oberhof he came in a sprint to 14th place and was third in the relay in Antholz (Roschkow, Pawel Rostowzew and Wiktor Maigurow ). The highlight of the season were Prokunin's second world championships in Kontiolahti . Here he finished 30th in the sprint and 39th in the pursuit. There was also a fourth place with the Russian relay. The following year he entered the European Championships, which were held in Kontiolahti and achieved a fourth relay place as the best placement. Since 2002/03 Prokunin has mostly competed in the European Cup, where he has since won two races, including a relay race. In 2008 he became Russian champion in the 7.5 km super pursuit and in the mass start in Uwat .

At the Russian championships in 2009 Prokunin was tested for doping substances , the result was positive for EPO . Prokunin was therefore banned from the Russian Federation for two years.

After Andrei Prokunin trained the South Korean biathletes in preparation for the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , he switched to the Ukrainian women's team as head coach in summer 2018, where he succeeded Uroš Velepec .
