CFB Valcartier
Canadian Forces Base Valcartier (French Base des Forces canadiennes Valcartier ) is a military base of the Canadian Army in the province of Quebec . The base is located approx. 25 km north of the city of Québec near Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier . The 5th Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group is stationed at the base.
history
CFB Valcartier was originally established in 1914 as a military training camp for the Canadian Expeditionary Force . Since 1968, due to the restructuring of the armed forces, Valcartier became the headquarters of the 5th Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group.

In total, the staff comprises around 3,000 soldiers and a fleet of 700 vehicles, some of which are stationed on the base and some in the surrounding smaller locations. The following units / facilities are stationed in Valcartier:
- Headquarters and Signals Squadron (Quartier général et escadron de transmissions)
- 5th Regiment d'artillerie Legère du Canada
- 12e Regiment blindé du Canada (12 RBC)
- 5th Combat Engineer Regiment (5th Regiment du génie de combat)
- 1st Battalion, Royal 22e Regiment
- 2nd Battalion, Royal 22e Regiment
- 3rd Battalion, Royal 22e Regiment
- 5 Military Police Platoon (5th Peloton de police militaire)
- 5 Field Ambulance (5e Ambulance de campagne)
The base is also home to the 430 Tactical Helicopter Squadron, 5 Service Battalion (for ASU Saint-Jean and CFB Montreal), CI SQFT (Land Force Quebec Area Training Center) as training facilities for most of the reservists stationed in Quebec, as well as the Myriam Bédard Biathlon Training Center , one of Canada's two national biathlon training centers.
The Defense Research and Development Canada (DRDC) research center for information technology and weapons systems is located on the base .
