history
Until the church is planted
The first documentary mention of it comes from the year 824. Steinhöring had had a post office of great importance since the 16th century - initiated by Emperor Maximilian I , who in 1506 had commissioned Janetto von Taxis to set up a postal connection between Brussels and Vienna. Steinhöring was on the lower route. The place belonged to the Rentamt München and to the regional court of Swabia of the Electorate of Bavaria and was the seat of a main team. Parts of the municipality were the scene of the Battle of Hohenlinden at the end of 1800 : Several hundred French soldiers camped in the main village of Steinhöring the night before the battle and marched north to the battle via Holzhäusln and St. Christoph the next day.
In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .
20th and 21st centuries
In 1936, the first maternity home of the Nazi race organization Lebensborn was opened in Steinhöring . An SA news school had been housed in this Hochland house since 1934. In 1940 there were 50 maternal beds and 109 children's beds there. When the Americans marched in at the end of World War II (May 3, 1945), 300 children, not only from this Lebensborn home, were housed there. The building was later turned into a children's hospital, which was in operation until 1971. In the meantime, a facility for the handicapped has been set up on the site , which looks after around 1000 handicapped people here and in branch offices with over 700 employees (early intervention, special needs kindergarten, special school with day care center, workshops for the handicapped, residential homes).
Population development
Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 3,102 to 4,149 by 1,047 inhabitants or by 33.8%.

St. Christoph
On July 1, 1972, the previously independent parish of St. Christoph (renamed on May 31, 1922, previously only Christoph ) was incorporated into the Steinhöring parish.
The place St. Christoph is mentioned in writing for the first time in 927 and had eight properties in the Middle Ages: rectory, school, economy, sacristan, Hafner, Sturm, Schmid and Kreuzer. It was part of the Free County of Hague from 1200 to 1804 . The western border of the municipality of St. Christoph also formed the western border of the county of Haag. Since this county was an independent Reichsland and did not belong to Bavaria, this border was a focal point of history. In 1362, the Duchy of Bavaria attacked the Free County in this section of the border and razed the Hague Castle of Fraunberg near St. Christoph to the ground after bitter battles with the Hague garrison. In the Hague State Museum there are still numerous weapons, pieces of armor and projectile fragments from this battle that were recovered during archaeological excavations.
The church of St.Christoph already existed as a Romanesque church (the parish of Albaching) in 1315 and was rebuilt in the Gothic style around 1390 under the Hague Count Christian († 1396). Saint Christopher was the patron saint of the ruling Hague Counts. The chain of office of the counts consisted of pure gold with a large Christoffer figure, which was set with five rubies , two sapphires and an emerald . In the period from 1674 to 1678 the church was enlarged and redesigned in the Baroque style, as it still impresses visitors today. Three old Gothic figures (St. Christopher, St. Bartholomew and St. James) were included in the new church furnishings . The baroque altars were created by the church painters Michael and Wolfgang Hofmann from Haag. In 1765, the art carpenter Fakler from Dorfen worked on the tabernacle.

Attractions
The St. Martin branch church in the Sensau district has a leaning tower . The subsurface began to sink over 100 years ago. The tower detached itself from the church and got into a leaning position, so that a deviation of up to 1.20 m from the perpendicular was created. In 1955 the tower was underpinned and has been fixed again since then, but the crookedness has remained.

Rail transport
Steinhöring has its own railway station on the 1903 opened Grafing-Wasserburg railway , a single-track branch line that in every hour of the SüdostBayernBahn is busy. With the regional trains that run here, it is possible to travel to Munich Ostbahnhof without having to change trains. In 2014, the previous Steinhöring stop was expanded into a double-track train crossing station . Since the timetable change on December 14, 2014, the so-called “Filzenexpress” has been running every hour Monday to Friday and every two hours on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. The Tulling district also has another stop along the route, which was extensively modernized in 2013. Since December 2016 , the Filzenexpress has been running every hour, even on weekends, as well as additional evening trains and modernized cars. In addition, the number of seats on the heavily used commuter trains was increased.

Newly added were the stops in Berger Straße, "Steinhöring Rathaus" and "Steinhöring Berger Straße", each operated in one direction, a stop in the Berg district and stops in Schützen and Graben.
