history

prehistory

After the Ursberger Anstalt, a Catholic religious order for the care of the handicapped (today Dominikus -ringenisen-Werk), acquired a farm in Fendsbach as a branch in 1896, the first disabled people who were able to work came to Fendsbach in 1903 and were employed in stables and agriculture. In 1926, Caritas acquired the Höfter brewery site in Steinhöring and built a retirement home for priests and parsonage keepers there.

1934-1971

Lebensbornheim in 1938

An SA news school had been housed in the vacant house since 1934 . In 1936 the first maternity home of the Nazi race organization  Lebensborn was opened in Steinhöring . In 1940 there were 50 maternal beds and 109 children's beds there. When the Americans marched in at the end of  World War II  (May 3, 1945), 300 children, not only from this Lebensborn home, were housed there. Caritas acquired the former Lebensborn home in the same year. In 1950, the Landshut Solanus sisters turned the building into a children's hospital and school for children's nurses, which was in operation until 1971.

Since 1971

After the children's hospital was closed, the Katholische Jugendfürsorge München und Freising e.V., founded in 1910, took over . V. ( KJF ) took over the facility and opened a " protective workshop " with dormitories for disabled adults called the Steinhöring care center .

In the following years a special elementary school and an attached day care center opened. In 1975 the Steinhöringer Werkstätten were recognized by the Federal Employment Agency as a “workshop for the disabled” (WfbM). Through repeated expansions and purchases, the furnishing association built itself into one of the largest furnishing associations of its kind in Germany in the following 30 years and employs over 700 people throughout Bavaria .

At the same time, the facility association is the largest employer in Steinhöring and has a say in the cultural and social life in Steinhöring and the other local communities.
