history

Edling is first mentioned in 1041 in the documents of the Attl monastery and was probably the seat of the Wasserburger ministerial , the Ettelinger. Later the place belonged to the Rentamt München and the Landgericht Wasserburg of the Electorate of Bavaria . In the course of the administrative reforms , Edling became the seat of an independent political municipality in the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1818.

Territorial reform

Before the municipal reform , Edling belonged to the district of Wasserburg am Inn . On April 1, 1971, the previously independent municipality of Steppach was incorporated. That happened in the voluntary phase of the territorial reform . In 1972 the district of Wasserburg am Inn and with it Edling came to the district of Rosenheim.

Struggle for independence

With effect from May 1, 1978, the Free State of Bavaria added the municipality of Edling to the area of the city of Wasserburg a.Inn, which was intended to compensate for the loss of centrality as part of the district reform in 1972. With its judgment of April 29, 1981, the Bavarian Constitutional Court ruled that the incorporation was void. Since then, the Edling community has been independent again.

Population development

Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 3,152 to 4,584 inhabitants or by 45.4%.

coat of arms

Edling coat of arms
Blazon : "In silver, next to a vertical blue diamond, a green sea leaf hanging on a raised blue sloping bar."
The reason for the coat of arms: "The motifs were taken from the coat of arms of the Wasserburg ministerial family of Edlinger (Seeblatt) and the Attel monastery (diamond); they stand for the earlier history of the place In the High Middle Ages he held the office of inheritance of the Rott am Inn Abbey. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the Attel monastery was the landlord of most of the properties in Edling and the lord of the Hofmark in the municipality of Atzenthal. "

Amphitheater on the stoa
  • The parish church of St. Cyriakus was converted to Baroque style at the beginning of the 19th century. The nave was rebuilt in 1898 according to a design by the Munich architect Joseph Elsner . The ceiling fresco was created by Anton Ranzinger in 1912.
  • Amphitheater on the Stoa
The "Stoa" ( Bavarian for stone ) is an Ice Age boulder (boulder) that was found during gravel mining. Due to its size, it was not transportable. The stone was created under the sea around 160 million years ago. About 15,000 years ago the ice released the stone, which initially remained buried under the alluvial gravel and gravel deposits. After gravel mining was stopped, the cultural and local history association built stone stairs around the boulder over the course of several years based on ancient amphitheaters . Many cultural events take place here, including open-air productions by the Belacqua and Das Narrenschiff theater in Wasserburg, as well as open-air screenings by the Utopia cinema in Wasserburg .
  • Water tower , built in 1926
