The Congregation of the Daughters of Divine Love ( Latin : Congregatio Filiae Divinae Caritatis , abbreviation : FDC ) is a Roman Catholic religious order and was founded by Sister Franziska Lechner .

history

On November 21, 1868, Sister Franziska Lechner received permission to found the community. The statutes were recognized on March 18, 1871 by the Archbishop's Ordinariate in Vienna . On February 1, 1869, the first mother house was moved into, which offered young, destitute women a roof over their heads, food and training. Later kindergartens, elementary schools, middle and higher educational institutions were founded in all the larger cities of the then Austro-Hungarian monarchy .

On July 26, 1884, the Congregation was legally recognized by Rome. When Mother Lechner died in 1894, almost 600 sisters had already joined the congregation and were active in 30 communities in the various countries of the Danube Monarchy.

The nuns were particularly involved in educational work and in the establishment of kindergartens and schools throughout the Danube monarchy. Today about 1,280 sisters (as of August 31, 2005) in Europe, North and South America and a mission station in Africa ( Uganda ) belong to the congregation. It is active in a total of 19 countries, with seven branches in Austria.
