The Mother of God Church (also: parish Jacquingasse ) is a Roman Catholic branch church in the 3rd district of Vienna highway in Fasanviertel at the Jacquingasse  12. The church is located in the parish of Maria-three churches in the deanery 3 of the Archdiocese of Vienna belonging Vicariate Vienna City . It is consecrated to the three times wonderful Mother of God .

Location description

The Mother of God Church is located at Jacquingasse 12 in the Fasanviertel in the Landstrasse district . The neo-Romanesque brick shell is the work of the architect Richard Jordan . The church is part of the convent of the Congregation of the Daughters of Divine Love , the mother house of this religious community, which was built at the same time and planned by Jordan .

history

In 1868 Franziska Lechner founded the Congregation of the Daughters of Divine Love in Vienna. The first parent house, which was moved into in 1871, was located at Fasangasse 4, not far from today's monastery. On the mediation of Archduchess Marie Valerie of Austria , the religious order received part of the Botanical Garden of the University of Vienna for the construction of a church. The construction of the Mother of God Church and the new monastery began in 1890. Josef Schmalzhofer was responsible for the structural execution of Richard Jordan's plans . The church was consecrated on April 22, 1891. The high altar was of I. Emperor Franz Joseph donated.

In 1939 the monastery church was elevated to a parish church. The Church of Our Lady was damaged at the end of the Second World War . The restoration lasted until 1964. The interior was renovated in 1977/78, and the church building was further renovated in 1991. In 2005, the Church of Our Lady received two new bells, consecrated to Saint Francis of Rome and Paul of Tarsus .

1987-1998 Kurt Knotzinger was pastor of the Mother of God Church.

The parish of An der Muttergotteskirche was abolished on October 1, 2017 and became part of the Maria-Drei-Kirchen parish . The Church of Our Lady has since been a branch church of the parish Maria-Drei-Kirchen and the church of the sub-community An der Muttergotteskirche.

Building description

There are two polygonal church towers on the street-side facade of the church . The nave has three aisles and a groin vault .

Furnishing

On the neo-Romanesque high altar is a copy made by Josef Kastner the Elder of the picture of Our Lady Three Times Wonderful from the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome . Josef Kastner the Younger painted the altarpieces on the side altars and the wall paintings on the arcades of the central nave and in the choir .

The organ from 1884 is a work by the Johann M. Kaufmanns company .
