history

Between 1908 and 1910 the order of the Salesians of Don Bosco had the Salesianum built with a chapel according to plans by architect Corradi , which was consecrated to the holy guardian angels . This was elevated to a parish church in 1939 and redesigned according to plans by the architect Robert Kramreiter . The damage that occurred during the Second World War was repaired after the war. The new church, a reinforced concrete structure, was rebuilt between 1954 and 1958 next to the Salesianum according to plans by Robert Kramreiter. Since the construction of the new parish church, the Corradi chapel has once again served as the house chapel of the Salesianum.

On July 5, 1964, Ludwig Schwarz , whose parents lived in the parish at the time, celebrated his first session in the parish church.

Building description

The church is a well proportioned, lengthwise structure with reinforced concrete walls and concrete tracery windows.

Exterior

Southwest view of the parish church

The rectangular church hall with lower aisles extends between the towering facade of the entrance hall and the bell tower next to the chancel. The choir ends in a flat conche . The entire height of the entrance facade is opened by an ornamentally decorated glass and concrete window.

The church tower in the northeast is designed as a residential tower with use as a youth hostel , especially for one week (so-called Vienna week) for students from the federal states of Austria to get to know the federal capital Vienna. This residential tower is currently closed due to dilapidation.

The middle gate on the south side of the church consists of two wings with enamel mosaic and silicate stones by Otto Beckmann . The mystery of creation and the seven sacraments are presented in eight fields .

Interior

The high church space is supported by only four pillars. This makes it possible to see at least two thirds of the sanctuary from any point in the church. The ceiling construction of the central nave made of convex concrete shells gives the impression of a tent. The openwork modular wall was created by the sculptor Erwin Hauer .

Furnishing

The artistically significant glass windows were designed by Kurt Absolon , Hermann Bauch , Margret Bilger , Georg Meistermann and Rudolf Szyszkowitz . They show symbols of the church year , symbols of the water of baptism , the jubilation of creation , the descent of the Holy Spirit , as well as representations of the love of Christ and the Mother of God as Rosa mystica . Josef Pillhofer made the altar out of marble. The crucifix as a sculpture on the choir wall is by Josef Sieberer .

On the occasion of the 50th Kirchweih festival , the Viennese artist Heinz Ebner designed a new baptismal font, which was blessed on June 22, 2008 by Auxiliary Bishop Helmut Krätzl .

organ

The organ with mechanical slide chests from 1964 comes from Gregor Hradetzky . It has twenty sounding registers , two manuals and a pedal . The organ consecration took place on March 28, 1965.
