A conche ( Gr. Konché ; Latin. Concha , " shell ") is an indentation or semicircular niche in architecture , which is usually closed at the top with a semi- dome . In church buildings, an apse or a side chapel can be designed as a conche.

The semicircular dome above the apse or the apse itself can also be called a conche.

A special use is found in the Trikonchos ("Dreikonchenanlage"), a central building with three evenly arranged cones.
