history
Until the church is planted
Findings of a stone ax, blades and scrapers suggest that it was settled in the Neolithic Age (5000–3200 BC). Around 500 BC Immigrant Celtic tribes settled at Mangfall and Leitzach. A section of the Roman road Via Julia from Augsburg to Salzburg can be identified from the Roman Empire (15 BC – 480 AD) west of Percha . The “ Birg ” rampart north of Kleinhöhenkirchen dates from the time of the Hungarian invasions (9th – 10th centuries).
The first known written evidence comes from the year 795. In the monastery of St. Emmeram in Regensburg , Bishop Atto von Freising demanded the tithe of the Feldkirchen church from the Tegernsee abbot Meginhart . In 1634 the plague raged in the community, with 58 people in Feldkirchen, 156 in Westerham and 48 people in Feldolling; the other districts also suffered great losses. The plague columns in Westerham, Feldolling and Aufham still remind of this today . From 1739 the Imperial Imperial Post operated by the Thurn and Taxis operated as “riding post” on the old salt road from Bad Reichenhall to Munich through Feldkirchen, from 1769 the “moving personal mail ”.
With the second community edict, Feldkirchen, Vagen (with Westerham) and Großhöhenrain (with Kleinhöhenrain) were raised to independent political communities on May 17, 1818. At this time there were 15 other properties and a salt barn in Feldkirchen in addition to the church with the farm buildings. The community lived mainly from the well-traveled salt road.
brewery
From 1876 to 1987 Feldkirchen-Westerham had its own brewery (Laib Bräu).
Incorporations
On July 1, 1972, the communities Feldkirchen and Vagen were merged to form the new community Feldkirchen-Westerham. The Bad Aibling district was dissolved at the same time. Thus the new municipality was assigned to the district of Rosenheim . On May 1, 1978, the previously independent community of Höhenrain was incorporated.
While the community was given a uniform postcode in 1993, the district of Vagen kept Bruckmühl's telephone code to this day.
Population development
Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 8,553 to 10,890 by 2,337 inhabitants or 27.3%.

coat of arms
The coat of arms is divided vertically: on the left there is a golden falcon with a red collar on a blue background, on the right a black rafter on a white background. In the lower quarter, a golden wave bar stretches across the entire width of the coat of arms. The falcon motif comes from the coat of arms of Count Neuburg-Falkenstein , the rafters from the seal coat of arms of the local aristocratic family of Westerham. The wave bar symbolizes the Mangfall , which essentially shapes the landscape. The coat of arms was originally introduced in 1964 as the coat of arms of the municipality of Vagen by the then mayor Max Reitner. During the municipal reform in 1972, the Vagen coat of arms was adopted unchanged for the newly merged municipality of Feldkirchen-Westerham.
