Soyen is a municipality in the Upper Bavarian district of Rosenheim , five kilometers north-north-west of Wasserburg am Inn . Remains of the old Hohenburg and Königswart castles still point to the historical past of the place.

Geographical location

The last ice age and with it the Inn glacier formed a hilly landscape and also formed several lakes. For example the Altensee and the Soyensee . Both lakes are privately owned. While the Soyensee, on the other hand, is still suitable as a bathing lake after a fee has to be paid, the Altensee is now no longer accessible to the public.

Until the church is planted

The first written records go back to the year 816. Soyen was part of the Duchy of Bavaria and belonged to the Munich Rent Office and the Wasserburg district court . Soyen became an independent political community in the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria in 1818.

Incorporations

On January 1, 1882, the Buchsee municipality merged with the Soyen municipality. On April 1, 1971, parts of the dissolved communities Schleefeld and Allmannsau were incorporated. On July 1, 1971, the municipality of Schlicht was added.

Population development

Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 2,353 to 2,894 by 541 inhabitants or 23%.

Municipal council

The Soyen municipal council consists of 14 voluntary councilors and the 1st mayor Thomas Weber. Its deputies are Afra Zantner and Johann Hinterberger.

Thomas Weber has been the first mayor since April 2020. His predecessors were Karl Fischberger (2008–2020), Lorenz Kebinger (1996–2008) and Hans Zoßeder (1968–1996).

Culture and sights

There are many churches and chapels in Soyen, such as the parish church of St. Peter in Rieden or the former pilgrimage church of the Assumption of Mary in Kirchreit. The large railway bridge in Königswart , which spans the valley of the river Inn, is to be named as a notable industrial monument .

In terms of traffic, the place is connected via the B 15 and the Rosenheim – Mühldorf railway line. In the Soyen district of Mühltal, a bridge was built over the Rosenheim-Mühldorf railway line in 2019.

societies

There are numerous clubs in Soyen, such as TSV Soyen, which currently plays in the A-class with its football department. Other departments at TSV Soyen are tennis , table tennis , volleyball , ladies' gymnastics, fitness and cycling clubs. There are also several shooting clubs in the community that compete against each other.

Sons and daughters of the church

  • Franz Xaver Huber (born July 23, 1819 in Kirchreit, † October 4, 1888 in Hoboken, New Jersey), Roman Catholic priest and Carmelite. Together with his brother Cyrill Knoll , he brought his order to the United States of America.
